Mary Sui Yee Wong is a Montreal based interdisciplinary artist who draws from familial and cultural herstories to explore space and place as construct. Wong has exhibited extensively across Canada and abroad.

What informs Wong’s practice is her penchant for social engagement and a fascination with how postcolonial orientalism has been commodified, disseminated, and consumed in a global economy. Currently, she is exploring ways to create visual narratives to counter the disquieting anti-Asian/anti-Chinese sentiment fueled by resurging racism.

Wong maintains a strong connection with the Chinese community as an advocate and elder. She continues to be an active mentor in the Montreal arts community and has sat on the board of several artist run-centers in the past that include Articule, Optica and Oboro.

Wong completed her MFA at Concordia University in 2003, where she currently teaches in the Studio Arts Department. Wong has been an affiliate faculty  at Goddard College since 2010 where she co-founded the BFA in Socially Engaged Arts degree track..
