2005

Intended as a self-portrait; this work juxtaposes the semiotics of Chinese language with the mechanization of art in paint-by-number paintings. By appropriating a commercial canon used to perpetuate aesthetics and art making in relation to craft, I seek to explore how art was popularized, marketed and consumed during the 1950’s. Part of a group exhibition curated by Michael Wagener titled “me, myself and I" of around 70 international artists, self-portraits.
