This installation focuses on the Chinese back in the early 1990’s when the population was almost entirely male. This work explores the psyche of immigrant workers faced with intolerable racism. All the objects in the installation relate to notion of “mianzi” the Chinese notion that teaches the importance of ‘face”, to avoid humiliation while upholding integrity when confronting one’s oppressors. One must ‘have face’, ‘keep face’ and ‘save face’
